oil and service

Featured Replies

I need a small oil top-up but wasn't told whether I am on variable servicing or time/mileage. The code in the service book is QG1. Can anyone tell me what oil should be used to top up please?

QG1 is variable servicing, so you'd need 505.01 spec oil (QG0 = 505.00 = fixed servicing)

Depending on how much of a 'top up' you actually need, and how urgent it is, you can add a small amount of ordinary oil if you can't get hold the proper stuff. But obviously, using the proper stuff is best.

It's all in the manual...

Thanks - got some Castrol 0W-30, seems to be what they use. Has to be the dearest oil in the shop of course,

Depends on the engine - 2.0PD needs 506.01

This is the 2.0FSI petrol engine. Interestingly enough, after adding the top-up I realised the engine note had been getting a little harsher, even though still safely above minimum. Now it has gone back to its refined former self!!
