What's This?

Featured Replies

Been trying to find somewhere to put my GPS speed camera detector and noticed this on the dashboard. I thought it was just to join two bits of the dash together but when unclipped found a couple of wires attached. I take it that it must be a sensor of some description but can't work out what for!.

I think it could well be the sensor for the remote locking?

Or....maybe not!

MK1 Octavia has it too. No idea what it is for though.

I believe it's a Sun light sensor for the Climate control.

I think the climate uses it and a number of other sensors to it adjust temp, blower speed, etc.

I wouldn't cover it if you can avoid it.

hope this helps

I did wonder if that was what is was for as my ex boss's Jag had a similar thing. But I thought the Skoda system wasn't that advanced.

sensor for climate control

Thanks guy's, makes sense now!.

A question I've always wanted to ask, but always forgotten too!!

Well you learn something new every day!

There's another sensor on the middle of the fan speed switch as well. the system takes measurements from different areas of the cabin

Actually called (well within Jaguar Landrover) a solar sensor. It measures the solar energy entering the vehicle and uses an algorythm to determine the heating effect caused by solar radiation. It then compensates and adjusts climate control accordingly.

Automatic temperature control systems have this sensor whereas standard aircon systems don't

As L&K said, I wouldn't cover it.
