Rear bulbs blown

Afternoon folks.  I mate of mine was driving behind me last night and pointed out that the rear light on the drivers side was kaput. I removed the light unit and both of the bulbs were blown so I whipped one of the bulbs out of the passenger side light and put that it, two slightly less bright rear lights are better than one bright and one dead one.

when I turned the lights on it blew the replacement bulb too :-(

I checked the fuses (number 18 from wheat I could decipher from the handbook) but that was ok.  I have retrofit HID headlight bulbs as the only modification to the car.

Any experience of this issue and any suggestions on how to fix it?

Cheers

Pete

Odd as for a bulb to blow like that needs a voltage greater than ~14V with the engine running.

When did you do the HID conversion? What changes were made to the wiring? Are the front side lamp bulbs OK?
