Getting buying advice for a used car

Featured Replies

As I've mentioned elsewhere on this forum, I'd quite like an Audi A4 Avant (B6) 1.9TDI as my next car. Given that these are fairly old now I'm trying to do my due dilligence and throroughly research what I need to be looking for to ensure I get a half decent example - I was very lucky with my Fabia, but I don't want to rely on luck this time, especially as I may buy through auction. I've heard that there's a certain issue where water gets under the passenger footwell and fries some electronics that are under there, for example, and I want to know how to check for stuff like this.

However, I can't seem to get any solid info that's up to date. I tried audi-forums.com/uk/ but in the A4 B6 section there are no replies to any recent thread including mine; it's just a dead section. The Audi Owners' Club online forum is only for paid up club members. I've tried Parkers, Honest John, googling etc etc but all the info seems to relate to this model when it was brand new, or just a couple of years old.

Surely there must be somewhere out there online where I could get a bit more model-specific information. Does anyone know where I can look, or better still can anyone tell me what to look for?

Cheers

Vwwatercooled forum might be a good place to look as they cover all VAG products.

Try to get a 1.9TDI 130 Sport, I used to have one of these. Not only does this have the 130PS version of the engine but also comes with the GmbH bodykit which IMHO really helps the looks.

B6's are really old now as you say, and most Audi owners have moved on but it's worth also looking at B7 forums as the bodywork is very similar (the B7 was just a front end & rear light restyle and engine update).

Thanks gents. Appreciate the advice. I'll check those out. I do want a 130 but not a Sport, for a few reasons; but thank you for the recommendation nonetheless!

check for rust, rust and rust! They go on the front arches, and on the roof gutters!
