Bulbs monitored by canbus system?

Featured Replies

Got a bulb out on my number plate and a bulb out light on the dash, so take it the number plate lights are monitored by the canbus system. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

If that's correct does it mean I can't fit led bulbs to these lights and I just need to replace like for like? 2011 facelift.

Thanks

Yes no. plate lights are monitored but this can be turned off via vcds to enable leds

Any info on how this is done with vcds please?

Pretty sure turning the warnings off have no effect on the MKII, you will need either resistors or additional bulbs if you want LED's

No mine was turned off using vcds.

I have no warning and leds with no resistors.

When I did it to my FL it was module 09, check byte 17, bit 7.

Other bulbs can also have the warnings removed but not with VCDS.

Thanks for the replies. I'll connect my vcds up when I get the chance and have a look at module 09. Your help is much appreciated guys.

My 2007 Octy can take LEDs both in the position lamps and in the number plate lamps. You just need to find a right type of LED bulb.

Generally, the expensive ones have a very low power usage and thus, they trigger the error and then they shut down....

This is what I use for the position lights - they are supr strong.

They work straight out of the box with no coding or anything else required - as opposed to the extremely expensive Osram ones I bought which turn off after 5 seconds and throw an error....

I would show you what I use for the number plate lights but the bulbs are so old I can't find the ad anymore.... Anyways, good old cheap 1 pound pair of bulbs with about 6 LEDs on them (5630 - the strong white ones). No errors whatsoever.

You can give them a try.

On my old Hyundai, the position LEDs used to burn off every year or so but at the price of 1 pound... you can't really ask for more. (considering thy don't throw an error).

Interesting.  I might try this, although I'm happy with standard plate bulbs. Just need to find the part number.
