Stiff boot lid

Featured Replies

The boot lid on my Superb has got very stiff. I've heard that this is a common problem on both Superbs and Passats.

Anybody know the best way to loosen them up???

Cheers

Go for it!

Had a loan of one a few weeks back. The Superbs well kitted out, but the Edition 100 has got more bells and whistles than a Keystone Cops film

LOL, now that's funny!!

My boot lifters are stiff and they get loose after you wash the car and then over time stiffern up, I have heard it's a common problem.

My Bora had the same problem and I ended up replacing them twice but I have just learned to live with this problem on the Superb.

Mine goes like that, even after the dealer looked at it. It would appear the hinge bearings just corrode up, causing the tightening. I now lube all the pivot points on a regular basis and boot goes up n down freely.

I use GT85, but have used Finish Line dry chain lube (bike stuff) but both worked fine.

New hinges with teflon bushes are availalbe, check with you local dealer.

(post correct at time of posting).

The newer hinges...are they chromed/polished or do they need painting?

Think mine needs new gas struts now, no amount of WD40 will get it moving like it used too!!
