knocking noise.

Featured Replies

Hi everyone I put a post on here about 18 months ago about a knocking noise coming from the front passengers side.Everytime I would go over bumps I heard a knocking noise. It wouldn't do it when it was wet for some reason.but recently I had some new tyres put on the front and the noise has gone from the left to the right.Im not good with cars but it must be definitely coming from the wheel.Has anyone got any ideas the noise is a pain in the arse. Regards John.

Every time I've experienced a knocking from the front going over bumps etc, it's been the droplinks.

Just had the car serviced this week and they have picked up the OSF droplink again, due to the rubber boot having  split. This will be the fourth one (3 on OSF alone) I have had to replace in just under 7 years.

To be fair, the 3 OSF droplinks were all supplied and fitted by ATS Euromaster. The first one one was replaced under warranty at less than 12 months, I was informed the replacement would only be covered under the original warranty.

I can feel a letter to ATS Euromaster Customer Services may be in the offing.....

ATS is correct in what they have informed you. The original warranty is the date they work from, even if the warranty replacement fails, as long it's outside the original warranty time they have no legal requirement to replace FOC. You would have to prove the part is defective/not fit for purpose or caused by human error. given the state of the roads in the Glasgow area I'm not too surprised the part has gone faulty.

Bugger!

There will be an answer. It just depends on how much of the front suspension components you want to replace!

I don't get what I would call a knock, I have a noticeable scraping / scratch noise when going over speed bumps / dropped kerbs at slow speeds that is much more noticeable in cold temperatures, don't really notice it in the summer with higher ambient temps.  Rain also seems to make it dissipate .

I had exactly the same noise in a mk5 golf and it went for a few years when I replaced the front wishbones, before slowly returning a few years later, but not as severely. It was the wishbone bushes I believe.

The knocking noise sounds like someone knocking on the outside of the car with there knuckle coming from the drivers side front wheel.

The same noise I have in the front system in cold/winter periods as far as I can realise comes from the shocks as they are cold inside (I mean oil) and needs time to get warmed and reach normal working temperature and then after driving for some time noise reduces a lot.

In the warmer days/or summer, nothing is heard....
