Monitoring engine channels - what's the best way ?

Hi All, I did post the other week and got no replys, my 2009 TDi Octavia Scout (BMM) has a lumpy tick over and I want to monitor some engine sensors with VCDS, which ones are best to try and nail the fault down and is it best to only monitor 1 line of 4 sensors at a time or monitor say 20 sensors or lines and then transfer them to excel if you can pick out certain ones that could be acting up ?  Cheers Stuart
