New car clean

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

i recently picked up my 2014 white Vrs Estate.  The car is in decent condition but I have not had a chance to give it a good going over.  I like to keep my car clean but wouldn't say that I'm a detailer!

Anyway, I am hoping to get a chance to give it a clean this week and my plan was to clay bar the car to start with then give it a polish with autoglym srp.  Once I had done that I was going to give it a coat of autoglym extra gloss protection before finishing it off with a coat or two of bh double speed wax.

Does this process sound ok to everyone or I am missing some things that would be better done??

cheers

I would also recommend some Iron X after washing and claying. Being white, I assume it has black or dark wheels? Either way, a good wheel wax and tyre dressing will set them off against the paint work.

SRP is a good polish to start with and I recommend the Auto Glym polish applicator, it's shaped like a hand and won't make your hand ache during the application process. I'm not sure how EGP will look against white polished surface, so it's up to you there. Certainly a good coat of wax will protect your hard work.

Where are you located? If in the Kent area, I'm happy to help further..

Thanks for your reply Richie.

Unfortunately I am up in Scotland!

The wheels are anthracite, I don't have a wheel wax, although I have ag wheel seal.  Can I use the dsw on them or am I better to use the wheel seal?

Do you think I am better to not use the EGP?  I used it before on my old black Vrs but never used it on a light colour??

I'd miss out the extra gloss - SRP followed by the bilt hamber.

The above will also be fine for wheel protection.

cheers

Chris

If you are going to spray the wheels with AG Wheel Seal, take the nut covers out or at least cover them up, same with the dust caps (cover them, don't remove!!) as it will coat them and it's a bu99er to get off!! Also do it on a still day so you don't get fall out and over spray on the paint work and glass ;)

Here's a good guide to cleaning a white car
