Good initiative by Seat for young drives -affortability

Featured Replies

Didn't Citroen do this a while ago by offering 2 years free insurance with a new car?

Seems like a good idea - it's really hard for youngsters to get the money together for a car and insurance so anything that can help is great.

Car insurance isn't cheap for a reason for new drivers but it's a difficult one cause how are they ever going to get experience?

These schemes are great, Just Add Fuel, free 1 or 2 year insurance etc.

Mum wants their offspring to have a nice safe new car on tick / never never.

But as known widely the issue is when the 'Young Person' has to then leave school / education and pay their way & there is the Mobile Phone Contract,

life style / social life, fuel to buy and 19/20 year old and their car insurance is £1,000 plus a year.

So as long as No claim / No Conviction / Accident free motoring earns them a good affordable insurance while still young no longer getting Free Insurance when paying Finance to lease a car it is maybe OK.

I would guess the manufacturers are seeing a drop in sales to younger drivers or just a drop in new drivers. I'm aware of plenty of people with young adult kids that just aren't bothering to learn to drive. They see the cost of learning as a waste since they will be unable to afford to run a car.

The longer you go without learning to drive the less likely you will bother at all.

In me yoof the done thing was to have the car in your Dad/Mum's name and you drove it as a named driver. Not correct but everyone was happy except the insurance companies. In the new ANPR, quick lookup electronic records, you can't do that slight of hand.

And £13k for the base model! £13k!

My first car was the equivalent of £2.5k (http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/bills/article-1633409/Historic-inflation-calculator-value-money-changed-1900.html)

Dacia is going to do well.

.....and they've probably been reading about the autonomous car and think what's the point.

SEAT a Spanish car company owned by a German Parent company and both from Continental Europe where 'youths' get licences at different times than in the UK,

so there can be 'Young People' on motorised 2 wheel vehicles at different ages than in the UK.

Motability Finance is the biggest Group Buyer of vehicles in the UK for people that qualify to lease from Motability (a Charity)

Over 800 cars a week being 'removed' from those with a Motability Vehicle as the Customer has been reassessed and lost the qualifying benefit.

But 16 year old disabled people with the appropriate assessment and benefit can get a Driving Licence in the UK,

and can lease a vehicle from Motability.

I wonder if SEAT / VW are looking at the younger disabled driver market as well as just younger drivers in general.

The Government must be looking at capping the BHP / performance of vehicles youngsters can drive and the modifications, and maybe other legislation and restrictions.

Or flying a kite yet again.

Maybe an investigation into whether young people are being ripped off or if they are just ****e drivers and are a massive risk.

I suspect rather unfortunately it's probably mostly the latter.

I wouldn't insure me at that age

I think they did, offering 2 years free insurance and cheap deals to 18 to 20 year olds on the Saxo. Then became the problem after 2 years the 18 years olds, now 20 couldn't get cheap insurance any more so the cars went back to Sh itron, sorry Citroen and the second hand market was flooded by 1000's of 2 year old Saxo's

Not good

** Other Makes and Insurance polices are available **
