Best alloy wheel cleaner

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

I spent an hour or so the hour on Wednesday giving the car a wash and quick wax and whilst the car itself came up nicely again my rear wheels have acquired a build up brake dust my usual wheel cleaners haven't removed despite normally doing the job quite well, Demon or Wonder wheels.

I had the car valeted before Christmas and again a few weeks ago and to be honest neither used a decent wheel cleaner which I don't think has helped things ... Can anyone recommend a decent product to clean these up before they get any worse ....

ValetPro Bilberry is a pretty good wheel cleaner. Reasonably priced too. Use a high concentrate and a brush and that should shift that grime?

Bilt Hamber Auto Wheel should also shift it...

Thanks for the prompt replies guys... I've a micro fibre wheel brush I use as the last one I had with a metal frame to hold the bristles badly scratched the wheels on my C5.

I've only a hose to rinse off with as I don't have a pressure washer will this make any difference to the cleaning off of the wheel cleaners ...... Blue36 I'd need to maybe use some kind of spray on sealant as I've quite bad arthritis in my hands so using a hand applied sealant might prove awkward ... It's a struggle washing and polishing the car at times however the pleasure of seeing it at the end makes it worthwhile.

Meguires hot wheels in the first instance with a decent wheel brush. Spray on and leave for 15 seconds, then agitate with the brush, spray off and repeat if required. Wash the wheels, rinse, dry and wax to create a protective layer.

Billberry wheel cleaner in the future to quickly and effectively keep the wheels clean. Spray on and let the liquid penetrate the dirt for around 5 minutes and simply jet off, simples.

All good suggestions above to tackle the build up.

If all esle fails - KKD Devil's Juice in 10:1 dilution will move that no issues at all.

But note this is an acidic wheel cleaner i keep for those tough jobs.

On regularly cleaned wheels, well maintained - i would highly recommend Dooka Wheels.

Bilt Hamber Auto Wheel

if required Bilt Hamber Korrosol to remove metal contamination.

It's the best wheel cleaner I've used and it's very reasonably priced. Can't say anything bad about any of their cleaning products infact.

You need to buy a jar of Elbow Grease - works every time :)

If you've used wonder wheels (which I wouldn't recommend using) and they are still the photo then something like Bilberry will be ineffective.

As others have stated a fallout remover and maybe a stiff bullet style brush will get those looking like new again.

Carpro IronX

Gtechniq W6

Gyeon Iron

Autosmart Red7
