Emmission control system light VRS 230

Featured Replies

Hey chaps and chapesses, my emmission control system light came on when driving today. The car didn't go into limp mode. I've switched on and off a couple of times, but it keeps coming on. Obviously I'll take it to the dealers, but wondered if anyone has any ideas.....

    No idea Auditek,  Keep us posted mate.

Hope it's nothing serious.

Will do :-)

My Mk2 did something similar and it was an injector. Think Skoda breakdown was RAC at the time and when he turned up he knew exactly that it was an injector, even had one on the van. Haven't heard of problems on Mk3 though.

If not already using it maybe get Super Unleaded in the tank, 97 ron if you must but better go with 99ron with Tesco Momentum 99 or Shell V-Power Nitro+

But after the Dealership Master Tech has run the Diagnostics and done his/her checks.

'What's sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander'. It is just that Skoda 'forget' to make much of a mention about it.

ie,  VW Golf or Polo GTI being much like a Skoda RS (vRS) seeing as the engines and engine management can be identical.

Without reading the fault codes its impossible to tell.

There are a hundred things which can light the MIL lamp.

Any fuel is fine, there's no reason that standard 95 RON would cause problems with your engine.

You might get a slight performance improvement with 98 or 99 RON but 95 certainly wont damage the engine.

Very True, all EU Type Approved and Euro 4, 5, 6 etc petrol engines are tested with 95 ron unleaded and must be able to run on it.

Then the real world comes into play. & the Emissions System of VW Engine Management.

No damage to the engine just kind of defeats buying a 'Warm Hatch' and running on the Minimum Standard of fuel.

(As to Dirty Diesels, then they plod along with any old stuff you bung in them.)

Good.

Just nosey but are you a Tech with Audi?

Best see if any Misfires have been logged, or any other codes.

LOL, I've been asked that a few times, no, I'm not a tech :-) I've checked my on board computer, and it's not showing any faults listed.

Do you use Super Unleaded or 95 ron Unleaded?

& had the car been sitting ticking over for any length of time?

I use both, super about every 4 tanks...I wasn't doing anything in particular when it came on....

Good news that it's working, however now you've mentioned its intermittent have a look at this thread that i started.

I never did update what actually happened! Ended up with a head change as one of the valves hadn't seated correctly from manufacture. I know this because Skoda Uk were keen to see the head once the garage found out what was wrong through doing a good old fashioned compression test.

They then sent it back to VW for examination, in the meantime I got a completely new head, already built, straight from the production line. VW were as keen to check the head as the garage were to having a ready built one rather than have to do a re-seating job.

You might want to consider asking for a compression test!
