Full Beam Switches Off

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've noticed over the last few weeks my full beam will only stay on for about 10 seconds, then revert back to main beam, but the blue full beam light is still on.

Has anyone else experienced this problem, or know what it is?

I have a Skoda Octavia Mk II (2005 Hatchback)

Thanks for viewing!!

Full beam = main beam.

You have dipped beam and main (or full) beam. What's the problem? Do you mean main beam stays on for 10 seconds then reverts to dipped beam?

Hi,

When I switch to main beam (blue light on dash), about 10 seconds later the main beam reverts back to dipped beam but blue light stays on dash :)

Any ideas?

I don't understand. If the main beam telltail is illuminated, then the main beam lights should be powered. About the only failure I can think of that would permit what you seem to be describing would be a failure in the main beam relay (if fitted).

I know, its sounds absurd, but flicking onto main beam, count to 10 then it automatically reverts back to dipped beam (with the blue light still on), flick the stick back to dipped beam, then back to main beam and another 10 seconds it reverts back again.

I did also experience a while back when flicking on to main beam, it took a couple seconds for the lights to go to main beam (not sure if related) but hey!

Thanks for your thoughts, i'll check for main beam relay in the manual.

I take it both high beam bulbs cease to illuminate after 10 seconds of being switched on.

I was going to mention faulty / loose bulb, but this is unlikely on both sides at the same time. So I would say probably as ken says re the relay.

And I do not think the main beam should also be called the full beam, (illogical, Jim) as main beam to me indicates the main one you use, which would be the dipped beam.

Hi Tilt,

Yes, both bulbs go out after 10 seconds, leaving the blue light still on, on the dash (it does look a bit odd, driving at traffic with the high beam indicator illuminated)

I'll check the manual for a high beam relay, wish me luck!

I've always called it Side lights / Main Beam / Full Beam, but I guess its like Breakfast / Dinner / Tea :)

Off > side lights > dipped headlights > main beam

Parking lights nowadays rather than side lights?  I remember when we drove around the town on side lights and god help you if your dipped beams were on.

I was once verbally abused when driving an old Mini because the side lights illuminated the sealed beam headlights reflector. The good old days.

Anyone ever find a resolution to this? I’ve the same problem only mine stays on for 4 seconds consistently.

Comfort control module/body control module/lighting control module, whatever terminology is used on your vehicle.

If you have damp carpets and/or a condensation/misting problem then a water leak from the scuttle may have dripped over the connector.

Have you by any chance fitted LED main beam bulbs?

Pretty sure they are just standard bulbs. I haven’t had the car that long but haven’t noticed any damp. Its an 05 model with 250k on the clock so who knows what the CM looks like! Lol
