Broke PCV hose changing air filter on 77TSI

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I was changing the air filter on my 77TSI for the first time and managed to snap the pcv hose off where it goes into the valve cover

Must be more fragile than I thought, does everyone else unplug it before they pull the lid off the airbox ?

Anyway will take it to the garage tomorrow and get them to fit a new one - what's the impact of driving it a few miles with the hose off going to be ?

It will blow some oil out, in my case it was about one litre in 10,000 miles so driving to the dealer isnt going to be a problem. Has no effect on driving.

Make sure they pull out the broken bit still left in the valve cover grommet as just pushimg a new pcv in will push the broken hard plastic pipe into the head space and it could easily get under a cam follower.....ugly sounds and ... been there, done that....luckily I got away with it.

In the uk it costs about £16 for the part.

Fragile part plus ham fisted mechanics dont mix, bad design.

Wish parts prices were that low here - car is back from the garage equivalent of £34 for the part and £17 for the labour. Lesson learned the expensive way!

Unfortunately the ham-fistedness was on my part this time.
