Original Skoda roof mounted bike carriers

Thanks Chris,

I have also been looking at Thule and thought the Skoda ones looked exactly the same as the freerides, just re-branded. The Thule's are about £55 each so still comparable with the Skoda ones, particularly if I buy the skoda bars too, as they are considerably cheaper from Superskoda.

I noticed from your particulars that you are a Spaceback owner, do you have roof bars on it, if so which ones?

Thanks

Hi Matt

I have the genuine ŠKODA roof bars for the Spaceback, only because I found a new set (unused but in a tatty box) going very cheap on eBay.

Until those came along I was looking at the Farad bars. But, the genuine ŠKODA ones (which I think are made by Thule as well) are very good quality and are of course a perfect fit, being car specific.

Oh, and the ŠKODA bike rack from SuperSkoda works out at £65 by the time you add on postage. So, surprisingly, better off buying from Halfords or possibly Amazon.

FYI - spurred on by this thread I decided to upgrade one of my cycle carriers and bought a Thule 532 (which ŠKODA rebadged as its own) for £42 from Amazon. It's arriving tomorrow apparently.

I'd be interested to see what you think of the 532 Chris. I'm putting my order into Superskoda this week for the roof bars and some other bits and bobs, but have decided to source the bike racks from UK - Ebay or Amazon probably. I think I'll go for two of the 532's.

Assembled it yesterday afternoon - I was very impressed with it. Very solid - single piece (unlike my cheapo ones which are two metal piece (like guttering) that you have to join in the middle with some flimsy bolts), with key locks on both the raised arm as well as one of the securing clamps. Comes with both T-fittings (suitable for the genuine Skoda roof bars and any aero bars with a T-channel) and tension clamps for square bars and everything else.

Also, do remember that the genuine Skoda roof bars for the Spaceback and normal Rapid are made for Skoda by Thule, so it means you can replace the locks on the bars and the bike racks with new ones for a single-key solution if you so wish. It's a handy feature.

I would add that Amazon is by far the cheapest option for them right now at £42 inc postage.
