Columbus unit issue

Featured Replies

Evening all,

Issues it seems with my Columbus unit.  The odd occasion it has lost audio or got stuck when cancelling a traffic report etc and then lost audio but few and far between.  Bizarrely today out of nowhere it has seemingly defaulted to Dutch and wont go back into English.  Its gives a message on the screen about something being loaded in Dutch and you toggle through the other screens but the message remains at the forefront and other functions are effectively disabled.

I've tried switching on and off plus/minus ignition and also pulled the 15a fuse in the box which disabled the unit but the message returns when I start it up again.

I'll leave overnight and see if it corrects but if not what next.  is it worth disconnecting the battery for a period of time or will I then need some sort of code to get the radio back on track.  Is the unit knackered and what cost to replace (I've seen 2k for a new Columbus?), are there better and more economical options if I need to go down that route.

is this just a HU reboot needed or more serious?

Edited to say I've tried the 3 button reboot now but also still coming back with what looks like various Dutch error or information messages....very strange!

thanks for any advice in advance,

Giles.

Possible problems are software corruption, hard drive failure, main board failure. First one can sometimes be fixed yourself if you're handy following instructions, second one will need to be sent here for replacement (and diagnostics), while the third one will be the death of the unit due to cost of main board and replacement. Cheaper to buy a replacement unit than spend €500 on a new board, then fitting, coding, software reinstall even if a board is available.

Send me a message and I'll talk you through what to do for the first option if you want.

Usually it defaults to German, so Dutch is a new one on me.

Thanks Rustynuts much appreciated.  I had seen your name when searching the forums.

Tried the reset again today having left overnight and no change.  The map 'works' in that its showing where the car is but no radio/media access or indeed audio and CD also seems unable to play.

I know when I bought the car 3 years ago the previous owner was very tech savvy, and had uploaded new software which gave full postcode search etc so it may well be updated from factory spec.

I'll pm you and would be good to try the first option and then move onto the diagnostic/repair.  Presume a battery disconnect won't have any impact beyond that of having had pulled the fuse and the 3-button reset.  I'm normally pretty good following instructions although SWMBO may have a different view!

I’m having the same problem. Everything gone to Dutch. How can this be fixed?
