I am a numpty

Featured Replies

Yes Folks - yous truley the numpty put some unleaded in his VRS this afternoon.

Long story but thankfully I didn't start the engine All was sorted but I don't think Tesco in Milton (Cambridge) were too happy.

And if you were the silver VRS behind my tow around 13:45 - sorry for causing chaos

Is this the same Tesco that Roo's been visiting....................

I am sure I read some crazy number like 600 people per day (or week?) do this so you are not alone. However it does make you think that a more foolproof system of nozzles/tank fillers should be used.

Glad you realised quick enough

Looks like you should have got a real vRS then!

Vindis Say they get 1 a week.

Still doesn't make it getter though

Oh dear, you plonker John

Ah well, hope it doesn't hurt your wallet or the car too much.

I feel sorry for you though - having to take the car to Vindis...

:thumbdwn:

Ooops! I just KNOW i'm going to do it one day myself!

I still dont get this.... how hard is it to pay attention for just a few seconds to ensure you put the right fuel in? If you pay that much attention at the pumps, how much attention do you pay when you are driving?

Sorry if this sounds harsh, but I think things like this are just inexcusable.

The trouble is, if you do drive other petrol cars frequently (like I do) and you change over, it is sooooo easy to do this.

It also doesn't help if you are being hassled by the driver behind who wants to get to the pump - mind he had to wait this time when we pushed the car back.

And as for driving, the only accidents (touch wppd) I've had within the last 10 + years were caused by other idiots driving into me or up my backside.

The guys I spoke to in the garage afterwards all admitted to doing this at one stage. So I wouldn't be surprised if some Diesels bought brand new have had this happen before delivery.

All I can say is I really hope it doesn't happen to you or anyone else on this site for that matter.

i'm sure it's easily done when you drive both petrol and diesel on a regular basis. as far as being hassled by the driver behind goes; **** em, they can wait.

Don't feel too bad. I did this a few years ago in my diesel:doh:

It didn't cost me too much to get the tank drained either. Luckily I didn't run the engine. :)

It's easily done, believe me!

Quite right! And if they display some elements of frustration, take even more time, and if they start gesticulating or shouting walk up to their car, 9 out of 10 of them will lock the doors, and the other 1 in 10 will inevitably calm down especially when you start leaning up against their car, silently scratching the paintwork on their roof with your key and trying to drum up an irrelevant and incredibly time consuming conversation  Like the man says **** em!

my dad has a CLK 270 CDI, he filled it up with unleaded and drove it home. has was going to call the stealer but was worried it would invalidate the warranty. so i had a 140 mile round trip to rip out his back seats, take out the fuel sender and pump out the tank!!! i filled it up with fresh diesel and added some fuel conditioner for good measure, fingers crossed its been six months with no damage, but he's going to trade it in before the warranty runs out!!!!

Yes well if its only a couple of litres and the tank is nearly empty, fill it up with the right stuff and all will be fine! If you do this on the 2.5 Di transits they go faster!

Seriously - in a 40 litre tank up to 5 litres of petrol should be ok provided you dont go mad with the engine as it will burn differently. If you are worried about the viscosity then adding the same amount of rapeseed oil as petrol added will thicken the mixture to approximately that of diesel but again dont go flat out or anything as the petrol makes everything burn differently!

done this myself JMK!..

It's easy to do John, like yourself I switch between petrol and diesel. So far I've not done it but I think that's just down to thinking before I pump.

My dad done it to the 418 diesel I had when he borrowed it, no harm done as it was only
