Columbus random media play

Featured Replies

I've searched but can't find the answer - please help if you know how to do this...

I have a USB stick with lots of albums, with the folders sitting on the root, i.e. Drive letter:/Band name/album name/tracks

I'd like to play the entire USB contents at random but it only seems to be possible to play a single folder at random, i.e. all the tracks on any one album.

If I create a new folder, i.e. F:/Music and put all the Band name folders in there, then select 'include subfolders' in the settings menu, will that let me play all of the contents of the USB at random?

Is there another way, i.e. a menu setting that I've missed?

Thanks.

I take a different approach to playing media in the car. I just use playlists for playing music files. You can create a playlist of all the tracks on the USB and store it in the root. Then you select the playlist for playing in the car and hit the random play icon.

I use Winamp to create playlists but I'm sure most media players on a PC/MAC can create them.

This way it doesn't matter how your folders and files are structured because the playlist points to the file including the folder path. The only thing to remember is when adding / removing music files the playlist needs to be updated.

This will work.

If it's the same as the Columbus in the Superb II, then you need to put one track in the root folder, start that playing and then select the mix option including subfolders while it plays the root track. Then it will pick at random from the whole drive. If you do this within a bolder it will play at random from within that folder and its subfolders.

Yes, it did.

Thanks!

And thanks to all who replied.
