Hi everyone I've got a problem with updating my satnav.

I called my service centre as I needed to update my system because it was getting confused where it was. They told me I had to buy a official sd card from them

which I did £200 and I did the update through the sd card which took roughly 2hrs and everything is fine no problems BUT here is where I came upon a problem.

After I installed the update I decided to have a look on the skoda portal to see when the next update was and it says JUNE 2017 and I also noticed there was a update for the radio logos

which I downloaded to my laptop and unzipped to a new folder on my desk top but when I inserted the sd card into my laptop the sd card when clicked on does not open so how would I be able to 

put any new update on to the card in future if I cannot access it now. I called the my service centre and they said when the update is available in june the card would recognise there is a update and I would be able to put any update on it which seems really strange to me. I was thinking perhaps after the install which I did on the satnav do I delete and format the sd card to get my laptop to read the card or what i'm not sure. I was a bit bothered that if I formatted the card I would not be able to use it in my satnav again as I know that once you assign the card to a certain vehicle that is it as it is locked to that vehicle.

Hope someone can help with this little matter.

What nav system do you have? And what maps version are you on. 

 

iirc the online skoda portal ones don't work with the mk2 fabia but you can get genuine sat nav updates on eBay for £45 that's where I get mine.

V9 is the latest you can't update the mk2 fabia Amundsen + via the online portal you need to by a new card each time best sticking to eBay genuine ones for £45

If you put in your chassis number it will say no updates as you've said by when it says next update June 2017 and click details you'll see it's the new style systems not the older ones we have.

My car is only 3yrs old so if they are fibbing I will complain to skoda head office

When I went on the portal and put vin number in it said no software update but gave the radio logos update

Mines is the same 3 years old Jan 14 car still the older system.

i know i went through the same process as you when i first got mine trying to do the downloads but then found out i needed to buy a new card each time so just stuck with the ebay genuine ones, only £45 just make sure its the RNS315 ones you get

you were correct my friend its a new card every time there is a update.

going to see my retailor tomorrow to complain taking my live chat script with me which I printed out

Keep us updated, I know with the new cars you only get updates for 3 years iirc not sure where they got life time updates from.

I feel like I've been led down the garden path when they sold me this fabia lol. I do a lot of travelling and when they said updates for the life time of car I thought yeah that's great no more updating my tom tom fantastic. Let's see what they tomorrow...... 

If that's what they said then they should give you a new SD card every time a new update comes out

Well here's hoping for a good result then maybe if others are in the same boat then there maybe light at the end of the tunnel

Hi guys all they could offer was a refund for the sd card which I purchased. They said sorry for the wrong info I was given at the time I purchased the vehicle regarding the updates for the satnav
