Octavia II DSG and warning lights

Featured Replies

We've started this new thread because it relates to two other problems reported in other threads:-

Octavia II with DSG reluctant to change up - see

and various threads about 3 warning lights coming on - e.g.

https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/268384-abs-esp-tyre-pressure-warning-lights/

In the beginning there was the 'DSG reluctant to change up' problem. Nothing showed up on the VCDS diagnostics. More of a pain than a disaster as we could still use the car in semi-manual mode - not a reason for shelling out on the mecatronic gubbins until we had a clearer idea of what was going on.

Then eventually - some months later - we started also seeing the 3 warning lights coming on - and running the VCDS diagnostics showed faults both in the Auto trans and ABS brakes sections.

The interesting aspect is that once the wheel sensor problem became bad enough to trigger the warning lights the DSG started behaving properly.

We've now had those rear wheel sensors changed and all is now hunky-dory - no more warning lights and the DSG works properly.

Our thinking is that the DSG can work out on its own roughly when to change gear but the wheel sensors provide more refined info to aid it. When one or more wheel sensors started misbehaving the DSG system was 'confused' about when to change up. When the wheel sensor problem eventually triggered the warning lights the DSG system started operating without reference to the wheel sensors.

Anyway - anyone with the 'DSG reluctant to change up' problem should hold off being persuaded to shell out on the mecatronic kit without being pretty certain that it is that which is at the root of the problem.
