Removing bumper trims for painting

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Looking to paint the old plastic trims on my bumpers. They are past any trim restorers.

Any easy way of removing them for this process?

Thanks

Hey buddy,

Do you mean the black plastic rubbing strips on the front and rear?

If so,  these pop off real easy.  For the front though you'll need to remove your number plate first. When ready,  take a nice large flat bladed screwdriver and a bit of rag, lay the rag against the paint work for protection at the corner of the trims on the side of the bumpers and just prise away gently enough to get your fingers behind the trim.  Once you get your fingers behind, just pull away from the bumper and follow it around the car.  Start at one end and keep pulling!

Thanks! Exactly that. Are they fixed by plastic connectors that may snap?

I'll have a go at that.

No, just small locating lugs that slot into the bumper shell.  If it's been warm and sunny where you are today,  the trim plastic is really quite flexible so nothing should go wrong!....! Let us know how you get on.

The door strips are just taped on.

So warm them with a hair drier and get a something flat and hard but plastic behind an end and just warm and pull
