That Blinkin' PID

Featured Replies

Hi

There are plenty of issues with the pid on this forum but none seem to address all the problems with mine.

Ive been a citigo owner since May 2016.  I've had ongoing problems with my PID since that time.  The issues are:

poor bluetooth connectivity with my iPhone 6S.  The red phone icon is displayed more times than the white icon.

When it does connect (when there isn't a Y in the month and the day of the week!!) it connects to my phone and plays the music through the phone rather than the speakers.  Its annoying when you are on a dual carriageway and nowhere near your phone to turn it off.  When it manages to connect and play my music through the car speakers the sound drops out for anything from 5 mins to 30 mins until it settles and plays more than one word at a time of my songs.

It has a poor radio signal at times when playing the radio

When someone rings now, the left speaker buzzes so much so that I can hardly hear the person or can't hear them at all

People who ring me can hear my radio playing but not me.  The phone icon displays  but they can't hear me.

When i ring out, the people at the other can't hear me at all. It appears to connect and displays all the right icons though

When using the sat nav only one speaker works

I've had incidences where the display for media is shown but other options such as auxiliary or radio are greyed out.

I've had incidences where the options to display the vehicle status, mileage, fuel consumption etc are greyed out but the other features such as sat nav work.

I've checked the connections to the pid and the dashboard mount.  I've had the wiring changed from the aerial to the pid.  I've tried to update the device but it states my device is up to date.  I've unpaired my phone and paired it again to no avail.

Basically anything that is not hard wired in like the radio malfunctions through the pid.

i'm at the end of my tether with it all - any suggestions other than to ask for a new pid?

Try pairing a different phone to see if the faults still occur. Then try another iPhone. You will then understand whether it is the PID or the pairing with your phone.

My PID was bad when the car was new and went funny the other day, not displaying radio or media player info on the screen but after a reset by the dealer it solved the poor Bluetooth connection with my iPhone 6S Plus and it's been fine since I upgraded to an iPhone 7 plus, no issues so far!!

I notice the radio reception is poor with ours..... I've had a couple of Up! courtesy cars in the past which have had better radio reception.... People have been told in the past that it works better with the PID connected but ours is the same with r without the PID.

The Bluetooth connection seems to work better with the mrs' iPhone SE (Current model) than it does with my iPhone 6S even though they are both running the same iOS 10.3.1. (I noticed yesterday I went to make a call via the PID and the person I was calling was coming through to the phones earpiece rather than the car speakers even though the phone was showing as connected to the PID via Bluetooth!!!)

Sat-Nav seems to work ok and I have also managed to locate the safety cameras files so it gives the "watch your speed" audible warning when approaching a speed camera site. :)

Thanks everyone i will try another phone.  Quite a few of the problems have resolved themselves - not sure if it was just playing up or an update actually happened when I first tried to connect it.  I've had a new symbol appear on the PID and I've found out its the symbol that denotes that the battery is fully charged.  I've not seen this symbol before, its always been that the battery was charging and showing the battery symbol, regardless of whether the journey was 10 mins or 3 hours.  Perhaps this is the problem?  It was plugged into the pc for quite a while yesterday when I tried to update it so it was charged via an external source.

My husband's iPhone 5 seems to connect quite easily but we've not tried to play his music or take calls.  My phone works well in all other areas and I don't want to change it for a different model.

For a while today it was completely behaving itself, even allowing me to play music via bluetooth and the track changed every time on the display and displaying the fully charged symbol.  Coming home, it got stuck on one displayed song even though the pid played other songs and the battery charging symbol appeared and coincidentally the bluetooth connectivity was sporadic when playing the songs i.e. it sounds like the song is jumping but its just a dodgy bluetooth connection.  Both speakers were working when using bluetooth.  I really want to get to the bottom of the problem and feel a resolution is closer.  I will definitely ask the dealer to re set the device and possibly explore either a new pid or new battery.  Think a new pid would be better as I've always had the battery symbol displayed rather than the fully charged symbol.  Obviously the thing won't work properly if its not fully charged.

If you have any more suggestions, they will be gratefully received.  Thanks again

You can try a manual reset yourself. Press and hold the screen whilst turning on. Then go through the screen sizing bit. You may lose some contacts and other information. It does not do a full factory reset and pleases itself how much it retains. Low battery does cause problems like no sound or not finding gps.

Further to my earlier posts I have another symbol that has appeared since my failed attempt to update the software on the web.  I now have a bluetooth sign to the left of the bunch of symbols that tells me if its connected to my phone.  This has improved the ability to play the music through the speakers although I still get my phone playing on occasions rather than through the car and my bluetooth connectivity is still poor in places.  Even though its still not brilliant, things have improved.  I will try the reset listed above.  Thanks for all your help. If I find a solution I will let you know.

PS my husbands iPhone 5s seems to work fine with the PID

  • 3 weeks later...

My PID was fine until a couple days ago. It randomly loses sound or pauses as if the PID and the phone aren't in sync with each other. One will be playing the other will be paused. But then it fixes itself but I guess it's just one of its quirks.

The garage fitted a new PID unit including base.  It wouldn't play my music at all by the phone was working.  Then the mechanic suggested removing all phones that were paired except mine and for a few days it played my music without a problem.  Now  when I first use the PID I have to manually disconnect my bluetooth and then reconnect and it plays my music.  The phone function still works even if the music won't play.  If I don't disconnect and connect the music plays on my phone and not through the car speakers.  The garage said anything above an iPhone 5 is not compatible with the PID unit.  Some features will work but others will not.  I don't find that acceptable.  I was sold a car with bluetooth/hands free technology - the brochure didn't say except for those with an iPhone 5 or above!  Anyhoo its better than it was and to be honest the phone function is more important than playing my music.  I can play cd's instead.
