Fabia Vrs & monte carlo spring swap

Featured Replies

Wondered if the vrs springs would fit the Tsi Monte Carlos as a way to reduce ride stiffness ?

They would physically fit but arnt designed for a Monte Carlo, the colours dots which are used for each model wouldn't match.

In the real world you probably wouldn't notice anyway, but just letting you know since you asked :D

The vRS is heavier than the 1.2tsi manual Monte Carlo and considering that many consider the Standard Sport Suspension of a vRS crashy and change the springs

and dampers sometimes i see little point in fitting vRS springs to a 1.2TSI Monte Carlo.

Monte 1.2 TSI 1,089 kg unladen.

vRS 1.4tsi DSG 1,243 kg unladen (or after Skoda changed that 1,318kg)

The 1318 is that dry? My Monte was that with me in it and nearly a full tank when weighted on the scales at knockhill. 1180 without me and 30 miles on the fuel but still the spare wheel and a full tool kit in the boot.

Skoda just made up figures and the vRS Hatch was still lighter than the vRS Estate or Polo GTI / Ibiza Cupra so they put 25KG ballast on the crash bar & fitted a spare wheel as standard, options on the VW / SEAT.

My vRS Hatch with weights off, full tank, 10 litres spare, trolley jack & 2 spare wheels and me @ 115kg weighs 1,440 kg.

The weight i want to know if a Golf GTI or Audi S3 want to play.

Odd that while every other Manufacturer chases lighter, VW have Skoda add success ballast making the front light....

Fit crap suspension and brakes and add unnecessary weight putting the Hatch in a higher tax band the same as the estate.

Then have the VW / SEAT able to have towbars and be able to tow and the Skoda's not.

(want to buy loads of expensive iron?)

My friend weighed his mk7 gti the same day at knockhill it was 1379 manual car.

This was on the official SLS weights too

Does removing these make much difference do we know?

It helps stopping the rear dropping under acceleration and the front going light if you remove them.

But changing the suspension obviously helps as well.

Does no harm removing them and no idea what excuse Skoda has for fitting them as all it did was make the car officially heavier than the 9 3/4 inch longer estate which gets stronger rear springs and gets better traction off the line.
