This month's "what car" - Octavia v Civic v Golf v Focus

Featured Replies

Not had a full read yet , but they tested mid spec petrol models (1.6fsi Ambiente)

The octavia won , Golf second , Focus third and Civic last!!!

Mid spec Golfs are hugely overpriced.

AutoExpress did a similar test last week - not got round to reading the write-up yet tho ;)

As for What Car findings - that's about how I would rank em too ;)

Hmm, wonder if the diesel Civic would have scored better? (Not seen this What Car at all yet). I liked the Civic when sat in it at the showroom (test drive Friday).

And it won Test Drive mag car of the year or something...

I know you tested the Civic, are you influenced by this test article?

How come the Astra VXR is never in these comparisons?

I think the diesel would have done a bit better , as the Honda 2.2 is a more powerful , more economical lump than the VAG 2.0 and the Ford ones , but most of the points they dislike are common across the range such as the overly fussy dashboard , rear visibility and firm suspension.

For me personally though only the slightly suspect visibility is a downside. The main problem I have with it is the cost. It's just too pricy for a car of that size

Because they were testing mid range ones , not hot versions
