Newbie Questions Octavia Est 1.9 L&k

Featured Replies

Hi,

Can you help me with a few questions I have just orders a new 1.9tdi (110) Est L&K Black Magic, Black Int, sorry new to skodas had a Reanault Scenic for the last 12 months 2 1/2 of thoes it has been in garages.

Servicing costs / intervals / tyre life etc? I'm trying to work out if it's beneficial to go for full maintenance or not on my PCP. Based on 20000 miles per year they want

Hello, Trev, and welcome to Briskoda.

I have the L&K hatch with the TDi 110 engine.

Based on the mileage that you are doing, my advice would be to go variable. I ended up doing 31,000ish before the service indicator came up. Your car will be set for variable servicing on delivery - you need to tell them if you want it on fixed.

Tyres - the standard Michelins on mine are still going (32k) on the front but only have another couple of thousand on them. The backs should be good for another 10k at least. Depends on your driving style - mine are mostly motorway/A-road miles so less stress/wear on the tyres. Mind you, you can't push the Michies far anyway .

The only dealer 'mod' I have had done is the two stage unlock and the anti-hijack lock all doors at 7mph.

Re: the phone - I'm about to look at the same myself (Nokia 6610). I believe there's a mute pin on the back of the Symphony unit, but I don't know if the audio from the phone can be fed through the car speakers yet. More when I find out.

Black car, black interior and tints - climate control on full during the summer then!! Just need the black alloys :D

Enjoy your car!

(BTW - the economy just gets better the more miles you put on the car!!)

re maintence... you tend to pay for what you dont get so would just take the car w/o it. the tyres / service are only cheap!:)

Yep , if they want nearly 800 quid a year to pay for the service and tyres then thay are making a huge profit.

Give that a miss

Good Choice Trev!!

The phone can be done in one of 2 ways,

Either by using the pin outs & mute wire as described here http://g7pkf.homeip.net/cars/octavia/radio.htm

or by going to most car audio centres & buying an ISO telephone mute connector (sound lynx do the best - Nok 01 tel -

Cheers Graham.

I've been hunting thru the forums looking for that very link!!

Do you have contact details or a web site for sound lynx? I can get the car kit and fit it myself rather than paying someone else.

Thanks Graham.

I've visited the sites and am now more confused than before.

OK to PM you? I desperately need some advice!! :o

Cheers,

Good choice !!!!!!!!!!!

Wendy is up to about 24000 on variable & the light has still not come on, tyres are still very good & it does get driven fairly hard

So I would suggest you stick with paying service bills yourself, you get the 3 year/ 60000 warranty + AA cover so all you will have to pay are service costs &

Stuart - It would be cool to get a report on their new premises. Oh, and exactly where they are so I can find them in December. :D

One word of warning. When new they sometimes use a bit of Oil, The warning light on ours came on at about 5000 miles & to top up took about 1/2 a litre BUT cars on variable need a specific oil so suggest you carry a bottle. You can add up to a 1/2 a litre of good quality "ordinary" oil & this is in the Manual but as the variable servicing is calculated partly by the car analising the oil the service interval will be reduced. Having said that we added ordinary oil & the service light has not come on yet.

Ditto - my scare was at 7500 miles and it swallowed about 3/4 of a litre. Since then it hasn't needed much topping up. Get the dealer to give you a litre to start with. It's about

Are they not on streetmap.co.uk then, Jason?? ;)

Hi Trevor,

Firstly, apologies - you wne tme a PM requesting some info but I haven't answered yet!

The Symphony head unit has an aux/tel input function - I would recommend that you use this as it will give you lots of audio that you can adjust from the radios' volume control. When you get your car, you will find the aux input connector in a plastic bag in the glove box. Check out Deans website for connection info.

I never found the GSM antenna lead as I replaced the original antenna anyway. Dashmount is a good bracket to use.

Excellent choice of car (L&K) by the way - black interior is definitely the best for ease of keeping clean! - beige looks good but I reckoned it would last about 2 weeks with 2 small children!

Definitely recommend the Jabba treatment

:D

John.

John absolutely no need for an extra antenna !!

The antenna lead is behind the glovebox next to the ICE loom. This goes to the radio antenna which is joint FM/AM/GSM.

Works perfectly.

Of Course it is !!!!

Sorry for the dealy I had top go out to & do a little work for a while !!

Ah, but Graham there was!

I actually replaced the existing antenna for a AM/FM+DAB+GPS function as I am using a Blaupunkt Woodstock head unit.

I use one of our internal dual band GSM antennas for the phone car kit. (we design & manufacture communication antennas by the way)

But point taken, it's very useful that the std antenna does both broadcast and GSM.

John.

I looked at one of those when I was considering the Woodstock, IIRC the same company now does all of what you mentioned + GSM (but it is about 18" long !!).

But I guess you have to support the companys' products !!

Thanks for all you help, I have declined the maintance, hopefully the car will be here next Saturday, cant wait.

With the Jabba remap what is the MPG Like before and after ? and how much for this remap?

Thanks

Trev

Hi Trev,

Check the Jabbasport website for re-map cost for the TDi - I had mine done on a special introductory "collecting ECU data" deal!

Also, consider a set of Eibach Prosport springs for your L&K - it made a big difference to my car, which before felt a bit "rolly" and nervous, but now is much more solid on the road - this kit lowers the car by 30mm (5mm lower than the vRS) so once fitted you need to approach some speed humps with caution!

Thanks for that John the springs would be nice but where I live I have to go over at least 5 big speed humps just to get to a mainroad my mate in an Std RS Has to crawl over them not to scratch his bumper.

Re Radio Muting

I have my Nokia 6310i and Nokia CARK(91?) which auto-mutes the Symphony head-unit and plays through the front speakers. Works extremely well and no extra bits were needed to do it. There's an option on one of the Symphony menus (see handbook)
