Printer not printing!

Featured Replies

Hi, just wondering if Windows 7 is preventing our laptop from printing. It appears that it will print photos but not Word or PDF. PDF files are opening ok and you can click on print. Office has stopped working for some reason, prob unsupported now and resisting my feeble attempts to repair it.  Print process window shows the job in the queue but doesn't print. Very annoying. I have switched the default printer connection to USB cable from wireless network but no solution. The laptop is an old Acer which works well bar printing. I think the drivers are correct so I am not sure whether to just buy a newer laptop rather than a new printer, which might not be the actual problem. Any sensible advice befire I fall victim to Currys Dell etc gratefully received as SWMBO is getting annoyed with it....and me probably.

I have computers on XP, Windows 7 and 10 and they all print wirelessly to my Cannon printer with no problem. I do not think that the operating system is your problem. Do you have another computer that you can try to ascertain whether the printer or PC is causing the problem? Has anything changed recently that may have affected the printing?

One thought I have is that the printer may be currently set for photo printing on photo paper and that it is waiting until plain paper is loaded and selected before it prints documents.

Thanks. New router! Downloaded HP trouble shooter and worked through it in 2-3 clicks and 5 minutes.  Laptop is now connected to Printer properly even though it showed on laptop as being connected with correct drivers. Secondly Microsoft Office 2010 issue sorted. Deleted Word and then reinstalled it and re-activated Office again. SWMBO is chuffed and all is good with the world. It is Good Friday after all.

Glad that you got it sorted.

Glad you got it sorted. I've go an old 2100 somewhere which doubled up a second scanner, and ( I still use w7) it works fine with my setup. Office- still using my old 2003 - tried 2007 and decided MS had done to Office what they'd done to Windows and ditched it. I'm convinced that MS decided to bring out new stuff to con cash out of businesses.

it's like modern cars that need the clutch depressed  ( depresses me) to start. Is it case drivers never check that car is IN GEAR before turning the key ?
