Dashboard "buzz" at 2000rpm- Sun Visor related.

Featured Replies

This buzzing was starting to annoy me and it got really bad when driving yesterday.  Googled "dashboard buzz" and the first link i got was to a VW Golf forum where someone had this issue.  He had the whole dashboard and cluster off, checked everything, back on, back off but the buzz remained.

Then by accident he knocked the sun visor while revving the car at 2000rpm.  Hey presto.. the buzz stopped.

The buzz was from the visor vibrating - either the lug it sits in or the sliding cover.

Of course I then tried this in mine - took the visor out the lug and slid the cover open a little.  Went for a drive, went up and down the revs.

BUZZING STOPPED!

I have a similar annoying buzz in my Octavia (III) which resonates about 2000 rpm and appears to be coming from the dash area on the passenger side. I've tried most of the remedies offered in the forums but nothing has cured it so far.

I've got a 260 mile round trip today so I'll be giving this a try.....................fingers crossed!

If you have a forward facing camera and there's plastic cover/cowling behind the rear view mirror then check that.

Vents surrounds and plastic trim from the whole area underneath the infotainment display to the gear lever are also prime suspects too.  IME it's not the trim being loose/rattling it's two adjoining panels coming into contact with each other.  Usually more common when the cars been sat in the heat and things have expanded just enough.  I lost the plot with my Mk3 Leon and ended up removing and insulating the majority of the dash as well as every door too only to find out it was my wife's ear ring :D

Or the sunglasses compartment, that's an easy fix, line it with felt and if necessary stick a little bit on the sides of the drop down bit too.

I'm afraid this diagnosis is wrong.   The buzz is back albeit intermittently.

It actually comes from under the large centre windscreen vent.  If I press the bit between the vent and the speaker it goes away completely. ... but comes back after a while.

Mainly occurs between revs 2000-3000.  It's more pronounced when going uphill from 50-70 odd mph.  Once it's up to speed there is nothing.   There's something in there vibrating. ... it's not really loud and if the radio is on i can hardly hear it, but it's annoying!   At least i know where it's coming from now.

Your point about it being sat in the heat is valid.   Some recent sunny days have brought this on
