Poor Radio Reception

Featured Replies

For some reason my radio reception has gone pants. Tried another antenna, just the same. Question is can you use an amplifier with an OEM unit ? I have the DX Nav head unit.

Cheers

Did you change the base or just the twig? The problem is probably in the base rather than the twig.

Oh and a head end pre-amp will boost the noise as much as it will the signal.

This the inside of the aerial base

The FM connection is via that spring, overtime you can get a build up of corrosion on that and bang goes the reception

Is the Yeti similar as my recepton is non existant in the Midlands but fine in Leeds where I live.

Took it back under warranty and hence no fault found as it works here.

The picture is of the combined GPS/Phone/FM base unit, but the method of connection from the base too the "whip" is common to all VAG "whip" aerial bases,

Fitted the Amp and she's sweet !

Interesting topic as I have the same problem. My Octi has a Kenwood unit fitted, will that be standard?

A kenwood unit will not be standard so the amp May assist your reception. Costs £5 and takes minutes to fit. As an aside I also found that a Dashcam I had fitted in the rear of the vehicle was causing considerable interference. If you have any extras powered by the cigarette lighter try disconnecting them to see if this improves the reception.

I thought the Kenwood was after market as it is not connected to the 6 disc auto-changer in the back. I don't have anything else running that could account for the bad reception so I am interested in the amp solution. Is it fitted into the antenna somehow? Connecting wire or soldering? Also, where can I get one from and does it have a part number please?

Thanks for that, a neat solution.

Just want to give an update on my interest in this thread. My Octavia has an aftermarket radio / CD player fitted and the radio reception has been quite poor. I bought one of aerial boosters from the link above and it works great, reception is much more reliable and clearer. It wasn't expensive, cost around a fiver including postage and fitting was really easy. So pleased to have fixed this problem.
