Apologies if covered already. Press coverage is pretty poor but as far as I can see not much changes for minor stuff (Band A) as I believe (despite the article) these will still be FPN unless you choose court but the new Band B seems to be quite significant meaning 91 mph on the motorway will automatically lead to court, big fine and 4-6 points. Previously you could certainly get away with a FPN for this.

Thanks for pointing it out. Unfortunately pretty soon descends into a general ramble about speeding rather than these new rules.

Magistrates  are Instructed.....    ^^^ April 2017 in England and Wales.

So we will see just what loop holes there are once they start implementing.

Seems like a good change if clearly understood before someone chooses to break the speed limits.

Income based ?.

Footballers pay 10s of thousands?.

I'd like to see that.

Regardless of any moral standpoint it seems a big change to make 91 an automatic court appearance. A significant proportion of motorway users currently drive at around that speed. I wonder how many apprehended expecting a £100 fixed penalty will get a shock when they end up with a court appearance 4-6 points and a week's pay as a fine. Fair enough "don't do the crime if you can't do the time" but the publicity available is confused and misleading.

They won't. There's a £2.5K cap as there was previously.

Then you hire a chauffeur I guess if you run out of points.

I have zero income. Honestly, guv, look at me tax return... Bye now!!

Agree... the FPN remains unchanged.. some thresholds have changed but if you dont end up in court you will pay the FPN.

A lot of the headlines are forgotting to mention this... while at the same time the comms for this has been very poor
