Tyre Pressure Monitor

Featured Replies

Has anyone experienced any issues with the tyre pressure monitor?  My Combi SE Exec has just come back from it's service (19000 miles) and suddenly the monitor keeps alarming to tell me that the back right tyre is losing pressure.  Everytime I check - it's fine.  I'm ignoring it (although the story of the boy who cried wolf makes me nervous...) and will book it in soonest.  But I wondered if anyone else has experienced the same.

Have you reset the TPMS?

Try inflating all four tyres to the correct pressures then do a confirm on the tyre pressure monitor screen.

it solved the problem for me. Worth a punt before getting it booked in.

Probably a different system but when my Octavia system has alarmed, it's been accurate. I reset the first time and when it came on again I pumped the tyres up left rear was considerably lower than the rest. Took it to the tyre people and it had a nail in it that had broken off. They didn't spot it until they'd actually taken the tyre off. Second occasion was similar but a different tyre. Strangley enough, when I hit a kerb with it and blew the front nearside out, it didn't come on. Not that I needed any system to tell me it was punctured.

Thanks for the replies.  I have tried doing the reset - everytime I check the pressures.  It seems to happen about an hour later.  It's not even losing a one psi.  I've even tried using different forecourt compressors just to ensure accuracy!

Long shot. Have you tried doing it when the tyres are cold or vice versa. When the tyres warm up the air pressure increases. Doing the reset cold might give you a bit of leeway on the hysteresis of the monitor.

IIRC a few people that have had this issue either reported it settled down itself OR their dealers identified a faulty ABS sensor.   Worth getting it booked in for peace of mind

Thanks - all booked in.  Along with a warranty inspection of the front wheel bearings (apologies for raising a separate issue - my bad).  The service cam back with an amber advisory for worn bearings - not even 20k on the clock!!

I have a long thread on this topic in this section... Can't share link as on mobile at moment.

In short.. I reset it every time it alerted around 7 Or 8 times and then it was fine.

Mine went into dealer 2 weeks ago form this issue and they did a software up date.. New tyres to be fitted in next week or so .. Time Will tell if it's worked !!

Fitted the summer tyres back on mine a couple of weeks ago and had to reset the monitor about three times, seems to have settled down now, this happens every time the tyres are swapped over and seems to be normal for the system used.

Thank you - It's in for another reason on Wed and I'll get them to have a look anyway.  I hope it settles down, it is a little disconcerting!

This can also happen if you have an identical spare wheel that you changed and got the original one fixed but just put into the boot instead of back on the vehicle. The spare wheel doesn't have the sensor valve on it.

The spare wheel doesn't have the sensor valve on it.

None of the wheels have sensor valves that is not how the system works.
It work by counting revolutions of the wheel over a set distance using the anti lock braking system.
Once it is set by the owner the revolutions are constantly monitored, to few or to less will register a change in pressure and a warning will come up on the dash.

Then this is a case of my bad, sorry about the false facts! We drive hyundai i40's at work and when someone got a puncture, the signal for the low pressure wouldn't turn off when the spare wheel was on. With the puncture fixed, the original tyre was placed in the boot and the spare was left on the car and the warning light still continued. After a complaint with the tyre shop, who didn't know why the warning would not go off, car was brought in to the dealership who confirmed that the wrong wheel was being used. They pointed out the valve was different for a sensor and a standard wheel. Sensor wheel has a metal square nut on base of valve, spare wheel doesn't

I assumed it was the same system for skoda superb.
