Why do I have 2 bulbs in my front fog lights on my 2009 Octavia?

One of the bulbs is the day running light. Others will have the detail but I think you need the dealer to activate them and then you can either have them in use or not, switching them on/ off using the headlight stalk. A search here may pull up a relevant thread as this has cropped up before. 

Activated my DRLs about a year ago with vcds but deactivated them a few days later as I didn't feel I always wanted them to be on.

 

I had read in the handbook that you could switch them on/off with the headlight stalk but it didn't seem to work for me.

 

Are the drl bulbs halogen or led?

It is a two stage process. First you have to activate the DRLs using software. Next you need to switch them on or off using the headlamp switch as shown in the handbook.

I used the Carista app to activate mine and at the same time activated coming home lights and a few other things.
