Would I be right in thinking that the 504 W3W bulbs in the rear light clusters of my pre FL are not monitored by the can bus system?

They were on mine.

I should point out opinions vary on this, some say they aren't monitored. I wonder if it varied by model year?

 

They were definitely monitored on my 2007 (57) vRS and 2008 (08) Scout, as were the number plate lights.

They're not monitored in my 08 scout. 

I only asked as I have a dodgy one that flickers on and off but not noticed the 'bulb out' warning. Maybe it needs to be off for a longer period of time time or on engine start before the Can Bus system detects it or maybe the engine light being on has blinded me to any other light in that area.

 

I initially wondered if in the process of replacing the defective one I could just change them all for LED but now I've searched, most are 5W. At 30p each I'll just get standard and a couple of spares I think.

 

Mines a 04 plate so a very early MK2 which is leading me to think they aren't monitored.

As soon as the bulb goes off the warning should come on.

 

There does seem to be some variations in which cars are monitored and which aren't. When the W3W's went on the vRS I replaced them with W5W's which blew pretty quickly. Seems the Octavia is pretty sensitive when it comes to bulbs.
