Italian Tune up

Featured Replies

Is there any risk of damaging an engine when leaving it running at high revs when in neutral gear? An MOT tester did this to a previous diesel car I owned to blast out the crap and reduce the emissions to get it to pass its test.

Want to do it on my 1.4 TSI Petrol just to clear any crap I can out the engine, but am I better taking it for a good run and thrashing it a bit to get the revs up in the lower gears or can it be done sitting in a drive.

Thanks

Think I'd be inclined to get her up to temperature and having a " Spirited " drive.

Do not do it stationary.

I suggested in your Oil use post doing an Italian Tune Up.

ie,

with Spark Plugs that have been checked for condition and gap, (New plugs fitted if required)

and the correct oil and good fuel and filters, so serviced,

get your cars engine up to operating temperature with an easy drive for 5-10 miles maybe, so oil up above 80*oC and go for some spirited driving, so getting the oil up above 100*oC maybe for a nice distance, and then once stopped and the engine cool remove the spark plugs and inspect.

Remember also to loosen the bolts and fixings on trim and grills and poke a few holes in the skins for that authentic Italian feel (Ex Sud owner).;)

maverick54,

after reading the post on 'white smoke from the exhaust' do not do an Italian Tune up, best find why your car is losing coolant.

Do not risk causing damage to your engine when you are using oil and losing coolant.

Thanks. I'll give it a go.
