Would this 250-300 bhp kit be any good?

Featured Replies

Since Holiday fee is almost coming up and I am not sure to spend it on a holiday or a power upgrade I found this relative cheap kit on a Dutch trading site:

With a bit of luck I might be available to buy this kit (minus the fuel pump as I have a S3 pump and probably TIP as I have a SFS that might be converted to 50 mm).

This kit is rated up to 300 bhp, so is capable to run close to the hardware limits of rods and gearbox. I would like to map it to 275 bhp and 380 Nm.

It comes complete with:

* K04-001 modified turbo

* 380 cc injectors

* Intercooler and hoses

* 3" down pipe with race catalyst

* 2.5" stainless steel Simons exhaust

All very nice you would say, sounds near plug & play, but but there are a few things worrying me:

1. The intercooler tubes/hoses looks rather small. The seller says they're 2" and slight Lager then OEM (in some parts I guess?). Ok, I saw on there site the tube to the throttle body is actually 60 mm, which seems ok. I know bigger tubing will give more lag, but this kit really sufficient for up to 300 bhp?

2. The kit doesn't come with a bigger MAF like you see on the S3 and LCR, is this common as it seems most tuners use the stock MAF on K04 Hybrid turbo's? It seems so strange the Audi uses a bigger MAF for just 225 bhp, while this kits should give more on a smaller MAF.

i wonder about your opinions here!

With kind regards,

Daniël (Holland)
