From Wikipedia "The NIO EP9 is a track-only, electric-powered, mid-engined two-seater supercar...". Driving a Porsche 956 Stefan "Bellof also set the fastest lap during the race, with a lap time of 6 minutes, 25.91 seconds, which remains the official Nordschleife lap record for all cars." Oh dear!

That Bellof time is during a race; all the manufacturer best laps are one offs.

Bellof did 6:11 in qualifying - probably a better comparison.

Still amazing that is unbeaten 34 years later.

7 cars in qualifying that day beat the new "record" by the EP9

And that wasn't "Bridge to Bridge" as has to be done now, that was the full lap.

According to Wiki, the electric record lap is around the full (1983) circuit, so it is comparable... but 34 seconds slower (with double the power, modern tyres, traction control etc etc)

For that matter, Derek Bell's lap on Duke's "In Car 956" DVD is a 6:41, and remember he did that with an old cine camera in the passenger seat!

Yes...and with traffic as I recall the video!

Oh yes.

So "fastest track only car round the Nordschleiffe is electric" - Myth Busted!!

Well, Ok then, the EP9 does sound better than a Scale... Formula E car! ;)

My Scalextric set is bigger and better than yours lol

Today I read that the EP9's effort was described as the "Outright Production Car record"

Given that they've upped the build plan from only 6 units to 16, that's stretching the term "production" a fair bit, and the 956 kind of beats that too...

...with 28 factory chassis built, and around 86 lwb 962 versions, and 57 non works chassis

around 170 total.

Since top track-ready 962's go for £1-1.5 mil and the EP9 is $1.48 mil, I know which one my lottery win's going on, come the glorious day... ;)
