COLUMBUS WELCOME SCREEN

Featured Replies

Hello,

The welcome screen is not shown every time the key is turned in the ignition.

Only very very few times I have seen that...

Does anyone know the issue?

Thanks'

It only shows when the system boots from deep sleep (like first thing on a morning). If it's not been long since turning off then the system won't need to boot from cold so no boot screen.

Thanx rustynut.

I have observed lots of mornings also does not show this screen...(but not remembering well if the car run last nights..)

Is there any setting it can be done to force welcome every time the ignition turns on?

No, not possible to make it show every time. Well, it is possible by switching the wiring so that it turns off with the key completely (switched live to the unit rather than permanent live and CAN signals to wake and sleep), but this isn't a solution I'd recommend. It means that the unit only has power when the ignition is on, and will mean you generate loss of data when you turn the ignition off.

If it's not showing the boot screen in the mornings, then it sounds like a software fault.

I see..

Is there any diagnostics to discover a possible software fault? (Or from the unit directly...Generally)

I thought the Columbus would also start booting when the car was unlocked or door opened. Not sure exactly which.

Therefore, if you take long enough between that wake up event and using the key, the Columbus may be booted enough not to show a startup logo :)

What do you mean langer2k by booting when unlock the car and when door open?

To show up start up screen or to boot silently (internally) thus then when turning the key in the ignition not to show anything as previously already unlock or open door?

Just been running some tests. On a cold boot it takes 26 seconds on my test unit for the boot screen to disappear, that's from powering up to boot screen disappearing.

On the unit fitted to the car I tested, the result was this. I unlocked the car and waited 26 seconds, then opened the door and got in, and turned the Columbus on straight away, and it was powered up and working so no boot screen.

So if you're unlocking the car and taking longer than 26 seconds to put the key in and turn it on, then you won't see a boot screen. This is on an SSD DAB unit, timings may be different for other models.

Yes, I think you are right...

Some times that unlocked the car and quickly got in, put key, turned it on and managed to see the welcome screen (without powering on the infotainment)....that was probably before the 26 secs to pass...

Otherwise I usually take my time when unlocking the car I go to the passenger's side, open the door, leave things on the seat then close that door and then enter my driver's seat. So I never see any welcome screen at those times as this procedure is more than 26..

But as I have observed it to show this screen very few times it was (probably) because at those specific times unlocked and entered fast enough and turned.key before the 26 secs ( as per your sayings)...

So it seems you are becoming correct and after the tests you performed.

Sometimes in the mornings when unlocking the car is because I only leave some things inside.on a seat, locking it again and go after 5 mins to re-unlock it and enter for starting driving. At those points I do not remember but I think the welcome screen is not showed...

The system is SSD DAB..

I'll perform some tests regarding timings and I believe I'll get into some conclusions.

Thank you

Today in the morning I unlocked car, got in quickly in driver's seat, turned key and did not see any welcome/logo screen...

It was surely what we say a cold start since last afternoon the car was parked and locked and not used...

So still I can not manage to understand when it is shown..

Someone referred by pressing together the 2 arrows keys (left and right on the top)  simultaneously with the voice control button on the right of device it does a hard reset?

Does this reset actually the unit?

Also the previously SWING unit could be powered on and off by pressing volume button on the MFSW buttons for around 3 secs. The Columbus does not respond this way. Is this programmable?  (VCDS or something)

Thank you!

Sounds like a software corruption then.

So only way I suppose for fixing is re-programming in a dealer?

Maybe dealer could diagnose if a possible software corrupt occurs?

No, dealers can't diagnose the actual units. They'd put it on their diagnostics and tell you there was no faults found because dealer diagnostics just checks the communication between the car and the unit etc. They'd probably find your rear discs needed replacing though.

You can reload the software yourself if you know what you need, being an SSD unit it'll be on either 6270 or 6276, so I'd be looking for the actual software version you're running at the moment, and work from there.

Thank you rustynuts.

The software is 6276 based on HW H42.

you think by reloading could make difference?

Manufacture year is 2017.

If you think is something easy and drop a link or info to do directly here I would appreciate.

Thank you.
