Retro wipers?

Featured Replies

Does anybody know if it's possible to get the older style of wipers compatible with the mk2 vrs/facelift?

I think frame style wipers would look great on this car.

I would think it tricky to get reverse mounting brackets for this type of job and would even question why? I am fairly sure the later style of wiper will produce a better contact with the glass and therefor clean the screen more effectively.

That said, I am also of the opinion that you could change the actual wiper arms to the older type and they will then certainly allow this type of wiper to fit. You will just need the correct length of arm, with the correct spline. Perhaps from an earlier Fabia?

The arms are very easy to remove and replace, using a spanner or socket of the correct size to remove the locking nut. A few gentle taps to the wiper spline with a wooden or rubber mallet to dislodge the arm (They usually need this to loosen any crud) Or use an arm removing tool, found on eBay for around a fiver, they will then just pop off. Fitting is just as simple but make sure they are in the correct position so as to wipe the screen across its full travel without hitting the edges.

My recommendation though, is to buy new, rather then source used as they will have suffered weathering to both the painted finish and the tension springs. New ones will at least operate correctly.
