Got a donor car to replace the engine in the combi. There were a few issues that I new I could tackle (load wire, sluggishness not great economy ...... ) that are now sorted.

Car is nct'd (mot'd) till end of Jan so I said I'd run it for a few months before the engine swap to make sure the motor is okay. A month in and she's taking a wobbly at starting now and again. Read the codes and got the cam sensor problem 19463. Apart from swapping the sensor, I've followed all the suggestions from searches on here and I can live with it till the engine swap when I'll replace with the sensor from the dead motor in the combi.

Meanwhile, it occurs to me that I've only heard the little 'swoosh' noise from the pump when you turn on the ignition about 5 or 6 times. Combi has been off the road for a year, but I'm sure it used to 'swoosh'  every time you hit the ignition? Thinking now that maybe the fuel pump is a bit touch and go as well?

Once up and running, there's no lack of power and I'm getting just under 60 mpg.

Going to replace glow plugs before the engine change but can't see that being the cause as the combi covered over twice the mileage as the donor - 320,000 km and was straight on the button every time until the fateful day the wife rang from the side of the motorway. (Suspected oil pump drive failure)
