Advice on Skoda Service Plans

Featured Replies

I just can't get my head round the Oil service, Inspection service, Minor service, Major service malarky.

I was toying with paying for the first two above on the Skoda £269 deal but now I am not so sure. The car has done 5400 miles and reports the following:

I was hoping for some advice from veteran members who might have more idea than me. I own two cars, the VRS and an MX-5 and am the only driver in the family. I expect to average about 5000 miles in the VRS and 3000 in the Mazda each year. I understand that the car is set to variable servicing? Is that the best option or would fixed be better? It strikes me that on the current regime I am going to have two services next year which seems crazy given the mileage I will be doing.

Any advice would be welcome...

For me personally, it's fixed every time. I prefer the car being serviced every year or 10k miles. With your low mileage in mind I'd also be opting for it as well.

Ok, I did wonder. How do I get it changed to fixed and more importantly, when? At the next oil service? Presumably the dealer will have to do the change as well?

Has it ever been serviced? The readout suggests it was done 79 days ago - (365-286 days)? Or at least the counter was reset.

For low mileage annual servicing is probably better, as only doing 5k miles a year, you could go 2 years without an oil change.

Keeping the oil clean will keep the engine/turbo healthy. Depends how long you intend to keep the car also, if just for 3 years, then maybe stay on variable, if for longer and you want a healthy engine, then annual is best.

The services are easy to understand:

Minor is just an oil change and a quick look around. Usually around £149

Major is an oil change and inspection, more involved usually around £269

The just alternate minor - major - minor - major etc

Thanks for that info. I have no idea if the car has been serviced, I have only owned it for 3 weeks and the dealer made no mention of it.

The £279 plan for cars less than a year old which I am interested in states that "all cars must be set to time and distance servicing". Is that what is know as variable and presumably what my car is currently set to?

Cheers.

I think time and distance might be fixed. 1 Year or 10,000 miles, whichever comes first.
