Minor oil service due

Featured Replies

Just a quickie - I booked my 2 1/2 year old vRS in for the £149 minor service. On the phone they asked if I wanted another oil (Can't remember what is was - sorry) at an extra £29.99. Apparently its a 'better' oil, engine runs better and increases MPG!

Any truth in that? Anyone heard that? I said no but thought I'd ask you on here!

Sorry, can't remember what they said made the oil different!!

Best get back in touch and ask so that you know what they are offering,

'What Oil are you using for the quoted £149 Minor Service'.,

& what are you going to use if i pay £29.99 more?'

and get the 'Upseller' on the Service Desk to Email you the details.

Are they asking if you want 'A flush'?

ASK WHY FOR £149 SERVICE THEY USE SUBSTANDARD OIL THAT DOES NOT HAVE THE ENGINE RUN AT IT'S BEST OR GIVE GOOD MPG!

What is your car on Fixed Servicing, 9,400 mile / 372 day intervals or on Variable / flexible servicing?

I assume Fixed Servicing since getting a minor service,

and Main Dealership use 'Long Life' oil be it Fixed Service or Variable, so no need to pay more for Oil than the Main Dealer Servicing costs. IMO.  But they get points for trying.... Not!

PS.

If your car is 2 1/2 year old is it going back in at 3 years old for the Brake Fluid Change, or waiting until another service is done?

Upselling nonsense.

Awayoffski makes a good point about the brake fluid change too.

They'll drain your wallet more effectively than draining your oil.

More 'Upselling' opportunities yet from the Dealership.

The A/C Servicing offer, then the phone call about the Scoring / Rust / 80% wear of the discs @ 2 1/2 year old and the advice to replace the Discs & Brakes.

Is your vRS petrol or diesel?

The diesel needs VW 507.00 oil regardless of which service it is having due to the DPF that is fitted.

You might want to let Skoda UK know that one of their franchised dealers is either using inferior oil as standard or overcharging for an unnecessary grade of oil. Modern engines are quite particular about the oil they require, this is why Skoda are quite open about the specification of the oil that should be used.

Why not ask Skoda here via email, it will be interesting to hear their reply...
