Limp home no engine management light

Featured Replies

Good evening

Just thought I would tap into the community for some advice.

I was accelerating on a short road to join a main A road.

I then noticed shortly afterwards that the power had gone.

Driving up hills was painful. Only got up to speed downhill!

I assumed, at the time, that the turbo was shot.

Got home left it a couple of hours. Did some research and came up with turbo overboost, which triggers limp home.

Went back to car and everything is dandy again!

Am I barking up the right tree with overboost?

If so why is there no emu warning light?

Maybe. If you get a battery warning light on first switch on then probably.

If you don't get the battery light then I'd suspect a loose or broken alternator control wire causing loss of electrical functions, and if you continue driving you'll flatten the battery.

I had the same on mine, loss of power no warning light.  Turn engine off and on again and it was back to normal.  I switched to using Shell V-Power Nitro + and it's not happened again.  I'm not suggesting that as a fix though.  From reading on here about similar problems, the usual answer is sticky turbo vanes and a suggested solution being the Mr Muscle cleaning method.

Can I presume it's a 1.9 pd diesel?

Silly question - does it shudder at all when you turn the engine off?

No its not a silly question!

Thought my cars details would show up in post.

Its a 2.0 td 140 bhp

Engine BKD

No there is no shudder when engine turned off.

Everything was as normal.

Mr muscle cleaner for the vanes!!

Sounds like an interesting fix.

sticky vanes for sure, I had the same engine, bit of a pain in the arse to do and really need a ramp imo

after its done fill up with some decent fuel give it a good blast to clear it out.

also if you notice your power starts to come on in a massive lump say 1-2k nothing 2-3 lots of power 3+ nothing it will be the turbo on the way out
