HELP - Fuel issue

Featured Replies

Hi There,

I've recently brought this VRs Mk I, i've had it for about 2 months, and the first month and half has been great! The last couple weeks hasn't been so much.

I've been starting to get some fuel issues, started minor and now its concerning:

  • Slight misfire when dropping down a gear
  • Slight misfire/Engine jerk on run down
  • Fuel gauge acting odd (goes up and down)
  • Half a tank now only lasts about 120ish miles?!

Being that A. i havent had it long and B. Im trying to save up, i dont really want to start having really expensive fuel bills, i have tried to diagnose the problem with so far no such luck i have tried the following:

  • Ran Reddex through tank
  • Ran Shell VPower through tank (full tank)
  • Changed fuel filter (mainly as it hasn't been done in sometime)

Since changing the fuel filter, things are better but by no means fixed.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Car has been regularly serviced, with a huge service last year including cambelt etc. Totally standard.

Thanks!

Forget snake oil solutions, get the codes read, in the meantime get pro-active and properly clean out the the EGR system and inlet plenum, that's the best place to start.
