Retrieving CDs from faulty Bolero

Featured Replies

The CD player in my Bolero has eaten up 6 CDs and won't give them back. I think something must have gone wrong with the mechanism inside the unit.

Has anybody got experience with this? I'm wondering if I can easily take the Bolero apart and remove the CDs. Quite happy not to use the CD function again as the SD card works perfectly but I'd like the CDs back!

Thanks!

I have disassembled a Bolero before but didn't dismantle the CD changer inside it.

There's a lid on top you have to remove first (which marks the end of its warrenty:biggrin:) and you'll see the CD changer. It is fixed by 6 screws on both sides of the Bolero. The CD changer is connected to the chip board by a flat cable which you should check to see if it has disconnected.

I don't know how to dismantle the CD changer, but here is a topic I found. It's Chinese but I think the pics would help.

Thanks for this Dylan. Looks like there may be some patience and determination required for this one! I'll see if Google translate can get its head around the Chinese instructions!

Well since I'm from China I could tell you that there's not much useful information except for the photos in that thread, because the work is done by the mechanic but not the author. You should pay attention to how to remove 4 shock-absorb springs, that's the tricky part. The photos in that thread didn't show the springs very clearly, but you would notice.

Here is another thread with clearer photos about how to diamantle it, but this one's problem is because that flat cable I told you above has disconnected, so no furthur photos about how to dismantle the CD bay. http://baa.bitauto.com/magotan/thread-5465173.html

In both cases the RCD510 (or Bolero in Skoda models) indicates there's no CD inside the system even though there are, and a system falure pop screen is showed. If yours doesn't have the same problem, maybe it could also because somewhere get stuck. You could try to see if the CDs would come out by knocking the machine with a 'brutal force' while pressing the release button at the same time. The CD bay has springs so don't worry about damage it.

I hope I made myself clear:biggrin:

Thank you very much. This is excellent advice. I shall report back my progress. Although I think I'm going to have to put aside a reasonably amount of time!

Got them out in the end with a little brute force!

I had this problem this morning, wouldn't read CD's and got pop up failure screen, i simply disconnected my car's battery for 15 minutes, then reconnected the battery. All is working again, sometimes all they need is a electrical reset.

I don't they like all this sun and heat we are getting.

I also don't carry the original CD's in the car, only copy's so if it does stop working i have not lost my music collection, i can also also re copy them as they do scratch easy in the car.

Yeh I tried the electrical reset to no joy. So went down the surgical route and saved the CDs. As you can see the CD changer is no longer viable! Fortunately the SD card still works.
