What can I replace my Columbus with?

Featured Replies

You may not need one...

Columbus quad is low, on my unit the main body is very shallow and at the top so existing quad was a tad too short to connect.

From memory I think I got a 150mm one, maybe longer?

I see if I can find order.

  • I've just ordered this:   https://audiotechdirect.com/pba-vw6405v-android-marshmallow-6-vag-fit-8-radio/  I actually bought it from the same company off Ebay for £320.   It's more

  • I'm not interested in DAB; might think about the TV later but neither of them are "required" if you choose not to install them.  I might get the 3G dongle but I'll see how my phone works as a wifi hot

  • No, I bought it from that same company. But from their listing on eBay, where I was able to submit a "best offer", rather than from their website.    Pleased to be able to clear up that misc

Something like this..

I was in no mad rush for mine so cheapest one I could find.

UK prices double

Not sure if 40 or 52 pin?

Superb, thanks. I'm sort of hoping to have all the parts to do it in a single weekend rather than have to repeatedly dismantle to check, and then order more parts, so I might get one in case.

Fitted it today, so easy to do and worked straight away. :D

Couple of minor issues...

1 - The unit is displaying the wrong doors when open, so if I open the driver's door, it shows the passenger, and vice versa.
2 - Can't seem to use Netflix, it's on the unit, but says not compatible with my device.

3 - What's this slot (pictured) for? A memory card or sim?

Also, thinking of ordering the reversing camera, anyone fitted this? What route did you take with the cable?

Nice one, Alan16ac. Mine arrived today, so I'll have a crack at fitting it at the weekend.

The slot is for a micro SD card. I got the impression it was something to do with GPS or map data, but haven't yet worked out what.

I was genuinely surprised at how straight forward and simple it was! I bought some plastic trim removal tools just be sure I didn't damage anything removing the trim.

Ahh okay, it has a location symbol next to it, so I wasn't too sure. Thanks for clearing that up. I've just ordered a reversing camera to fit to it :)

Hi, this is interesting. Did you have a gps antenna before? Does the parking sensor, heating controls etc appear on the screen? What’s the radio reception like? I know you don’t have dab but did you need to change the antenna?

Thanks for your replies.

I had GPS before, however I'm currently using the GPS antenna supplied with the unit. I didn't realise I needed an adapter to use the car's antenna. I've since ordered this adapter, and will fit it when it arrives.

All the heating/climate control and heated seats display on the screen, as does the parking sensor display.

Radio reception is fine, it uses the car's antenna so no different than before. I didn't opt for DAB as I don't use it. I've got an EE Wifi mini in the car, and I'm using this to provide interent to the unit, and I'll mainly use spotify.

you'll need to get to this screen...

from memory ...settings - factory (car)?  - enter passcode 4 numbers? , i had to search t'internet for possible codes and try them - then scroll to attached pic then change rudder and door swap i think ?     dont forget to press apply

mine came with Sygic pre-loaded on SD card although the slot isnt marked as yours is

Thanks for the reply. Looking forward to teacake’s install as I want DAB. What adapters do you need for the gps? Links. Pics and install guide would be good if possible.

Also, do the steering wheel controls work and Bluetooth phone connectivity?

This is the adapter you need for the GPS. https://audiotechdirect.com/sma-to-male-fakra-gps-aerial-adaptor-cable/

I used these trim removal tools. https://audiotechdirect.com/plastic-trim-dashboard-removal-tool-set-4-peice/

I followed this video, it's literally trim off and four screws, that's it :) Then simply unplug the old unit, and plug in the new one.

The steering wheel controls work for volume and tracks, the bluetooth appears to be separate. So you still have the standard bluetooth which you can access using the MFD, or the new head unit's bluetooth is used through the unit.

Thanks for this useful information, and the links. Did you need any form of adaptor for the FM antenna?

No problem. No the antenna was a direct fit for my unit :)

That's good to know, thanks. I've just ordered the removal tool and antenna adaptor you linked to. 😉

Do you need PbA-USBAA for Carplay to work or is it already built in and work via bluetooth?

ring ATD or email them...any Q's and they'll answer

I emailed as suggested and they replied promptly. No extra part needed. 👍

Fitted the GPS adapter today, and that's working fine.

I'm getting interference, which is especially bad and annoying when I'm streaming music. Not sure where to start with sorting that 😞

To " @Alan16ac " - What does it mean "interference"?

Check the other threads re android units, others have had similar issues

Just a thought.... Have you unplugged BT module under seat?

rSAP on mine was constantly trying to connect and as I use the HU BT is no longer useful

Basically picking up signals from other things that cause the unit to play annoying sounds.  Not really sure how to explain it 😂

Could you point me in the direction of any threads? I did have a search but I was unsuccessful. Will have another look.

Nope I haven’t. Is it easy to access. Mine is constantly trying to connect and keeps interfering with my MFD so I will get that unplugged.
