Have an Octy 1.9 tdi 18 months old 27k miles . Noticed that where the Gear linkage shaft enters Gearbox ,assume thats what it is , right of the engine down low , i have a leak of what i assume to be oil to be seeping out . Is this normal . Should i take straight down to dealers to have a look .

oil leaks are not normal

Get them to have a look at it, can't hurt and the gearbox isn't what you would call cheap.

To be honest the pressure that usually builds up in the box just sweats a little oil out of the top seal. Not uncommon at all, but get it checked out if your concerned.

Thanks for the input , have booked it in with dealer next week . So that if anything gets worse , i will have it noted by them . Service will come up in about 4 months , so they can check asgain , if it fails i am covered untill sept 2007 . Just not what i expected to see . Will update when i have an answer .
