Electrical problems in the left front and back doors.

Featured Replies

I have some electrical problems in my left doors.
The car has driver's seat to the left.
I have search the net for ansers and have some ideas but I thought I let have it a go here.

This is the faults.
1. Side mirrors heating - no function on left or right side. But you can adjust the mirrors on both sides.
2. Back door left side - the door lock does not function electrically. I have replaced it with a new one so it's not the lock.
3. Back door left side, the window can not be operated by the button on the door. You can oprerate it with the button on the driver's side but the window goes down/up only a few centimeters each time you operate the button.

Answers to people with simular faults is suggested that it can be the cable harness in the back door but then the side mirrors heating should not be affected by that?
Another answer is the Door Control Unit is faulty in the front left door.  It controls the back door as well?
So what is the theories by the experts here?
What is the most likely cause of my troubles with the faults that I have.

@rail

1) The adjuster has 3 positions, adjust left mirror, centre, and adjust right mirror. The heating function only works when the adjuster is in the centre position, and then only if the heater elements aren't burnt out.

Everything else could be accounted for by water ingress to the driver's door loom and the door control unit. Answering that stuff requires physical inspection inside the driver's door.

OK, thank you.

So there is no door control unit in the back door that affects the operation of the window and the door lock?

For the mirror issue, I would say that either you don't have it in the centre position on the switch, or the mirror glasses don't have heating elements in, are from a Mk4 Golf and the wires don't reach, or are burnt out.

The rear door window has a child proof lock on drivers door switch, but it's more than likely broken wires in the rubber trunking that goes front door to car, there is also the chance that either the motor or window regulator are seized up. Hope this helps?

The heating of the mirrors have been working before. And yes, I know the knob shall be in the centre position.

I find it hard to believe that the heating elements has been burned out on both sides at the same time..I think there must be another fault. Mayby the switch is faulty in the middle position.

I found a couple of posts here that was about problem withh rear door lock and windows. There were water in the connector to the Door Control Unit so the connector got erroded inside.

Check this and scroll down for pictures.

And also this post.

I think my problem is the same.

Normally the drivers door mirror stops working, if there is a fault with the control module that is on the bottom of the window motor. Only way to check is to remove the multi plug and check. The rear window is a common problem as is snapped wiring in the rubber trunking.
