Hi all,

 

..after months of deliberation I have decided the car I need is a 1.4tsi (148hp). I am currently on my 3rd Octavia, the current one being a 2010 1.4tsi 122hp. I wanted a "more powerful" car as i need to tow a small caravan. I have gone off diesels due to lower annual mileage / dpf issues, and the general "anti diesel" campaign that seems to be running.

 

No manufacturer seems to make a "larger" petrol engine car that would be OK to tow with, (at least not something that is a reasonable price / economical to run). So I think the newer 1.4 seems about my only option. Only problem is a can't find one for sale within 50 miles (Mid Wales). I would ideally like an Elegance spec (currently have an SE)...but these seem to be even rarer!!...does anybody know what the main differences are?...and does anybody else tow with a recent 1.4tsi 148 hp, and what "weight" caravan do you tow....

Have you tried broadening your search to include SEL models?  That trim replaced Elegance fairy early on...mid 2014 maybe.  May give you more options.

As your in mid Wales, when it comes to getting your towbar fitted give salop towing in Shrewsbury a try, they fitted my fixed towbar with dedicated wiring for £280, was told on here that is a vary good price as many got qouted nearer £500.

..Hi and thanks for the tow bar tip. My last one was fitted "free" as part of the deal, but its good to know there are other "local" options...many thanks...

I towed a 400kg 20' trailer with a Mk2 Astra on it, be sensible & its ok, not a problem, mines a 14 plate 1.4tsi elegance & its PCP finishes in August.

Bit later than mid 2014 - our 1.4 TSi manual Elegance estate was built in April 2015 and first registered in July 2015.
