Sporty Engine Note

Featured Replies

I was standing at the front of my 1.4Tsi manual while SWMBO gently moved it (in eco mode). The crisp zing reminded me of an old Alfa Romeo or Lotus Ford twin cam. And that's praise from me. First time I've heard the engine under power to be honest- I  find the car to be very smooth and quiet from inside.

They generally sound ok, just a bit tappety when you start them.

It seems to be worse on a restart after its been sat for a bit but still warmish. You get 10 secs of clatter then its quiet, I assume when the oil pumps gets the pressure up.

If it gets any worse I'll have to have it checked out, oil is topped up to the max.

Was quite embarrassing leaving my friends house on Sunday with them all stood outside waving us off....and the Skoda clatters into life...lol especially as he drives a Merc!

Given that no one buys a petrol Merc... surely the Merc sounds just as bad at start up if not, worse?!

Yeah its a C220 Cdi AMG Line. Hell of a lot nicer to drive than the Octavia, but hey its the best part of £30k.

No clatter noticeable from mine - hence my praise. Now my BMW boxer does clatter as the oil pressure builds up.
