New Air-con Compressor on Fabia vRS

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone,

I don't know if you remember me mentioning my air con making a whinning noise when switched on - the pitch changed with the engine and gear change.

Well today the local Skoda garage replaced my Aircon compressor. (£200 about when I looked up the part) and my steering has been adjusted to make it lighter for Parking. My wife found it heavy. I don't know if this was done in the Vag or not. There was not option on my dongle when I plugged it in.

Fortunately all done under my extended warenty and they lent me a brand new Yeti Auto SEL FULL leather to drive around in. Which was very kind of them.

anyone else had their compressor replaced before?

all the best,

My AC died this week, had it checked out by a local garage instead of my local skoda (first time I have gone to independent) and he found my wiring on the compressor to be shot so he re wired it and it worked great for a total of 8 miles... then it started squeaking and no AC again... took it back to him and it turns out the Nut holding the clutch snapped off in the socket. Their head tech (ex vw tech) told me its not uncommon and hes going to replace the bolt and everything should be dandy.

Reason for going independent was because my skoda is fully booked with emissions work this week and couldn't fit me in and I desperately wanted my ice cold AC back!

£200 though isnt too bad when you compare prices online, I also want my steering adjusted to make it lighter as it is very heavy for the size of car!! Might ask my local forum VCDS pall to have a look!

Wow what a difference the steering adjustment made - the car is totally different to drive. Can really throw it round the bends now

So so glad I didn't have to pay for a new ac compressor. The service lady told me it was £535 for a new one yikessss!

Wow Mr Grindel looks like you seriously saved some money there.

not a penny charged for the hire car or the fix/steering adjustments - what a relief.
