Airbag warning light

Featured Replies

Hello,

Ive been trying to clear the following fault , by cutting out the under seat plug and soldering the wires as ive read loads of post on the subject but it will not clear with VCDS.

Is their anything else i can do as i'm at the end of my tether over it and the MOT is looming, could it possibly be the airbag itself at fault and how hard is it to remove ?

Any members advice would be greatly appreciated.

  1 Fault Found:
01217 - Side Airbag Igniter; Driver Side (N199)
001 - Upper Limit Exceeded - MIL ON

I once had this issue on the passenger side on my mk2 Octy, the problem occurred every time the seat was pushed back for cleaning, it may just be in your case that the connection is not fully home, I tie wrapped the connectors together and the fault cleared. If you have re soldered the wiring are there any dry joints?. If the fault will not clear with VCDS then he issue is still there. Also a long shot sometimes VCDS can swap the driver and passenger sides, so your faukt could well be on the passenger side.....Good luck. I am far from a VCDS expert if you post a scan in the relevant directories one of the VCDS guru's maybe able to help.

Thanks for your thoughts,I'll try the passenger side tomorrow and try and clear it again.......then check for dry joints in the soldering . I just seem to be going around in circles with it !! This is the fault  code and everything I've seen points to the plug hence the soldering.

I checked the passenger side by unplugging it and VCDS showed a fault there as well as the drivers side, plugged it back in and the only remaining fault was the driver side. So carpet up and seat side panels removed to try and free up more loom length as its a bit tight and tricky to re-solder the floor pan plug. I done a cracking job even if i do say so myself.......until i tried to clear the fault and the light went out for 3 seconds then came back on again !!!!! Gutted. I checked for any obvious damage to the loom from the soldered joints to the airbag controller and all looked fine, so then went in the opposite direction from soldered joint to the airbag, as the seat side panels were off it gave me a far better unrestricted view , and their it was....... another bloody plug about 10 inches along the loom from the floor pan plug. I could just fit one of my big hands in under the seat to reach it and put some pressure either side to make sure it was tight........it moved about 0.5 mm. I cleared the fault with VCDS and watched the dash for the light to come back on........nothing ! Cue me running up and down the drive like i'd just score the winner in the cup final !! I could not get 2 hands in to cable tie the plug together so decided to jam it in place with a screwdriver and get my glue gun in and put a blob of hot glue on to hold the two sides of the plug together. Worked like a charm. So my 10 month nightmare of airbag warning light and bonging is finally over !
